They Paid No Attention
The People of the Lord in Judah were seduced by the evil King Manasseh to sin more than the people who lived there before them, whom the Lord destroyed because of their sins. This would have never happened if the people had kept the commandments of God. However, they paid no attention to God's commands. (II Kings 21:9) That led to their downfall. We better watch out for the same thing.
The sins of Judah were worse than the sins of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, because Judah had seen what God did to them. They knew that God had taken them into captivity and wiped the country of Israel away completely because they broke God's commandments. Still, the people of Judah paid no attention to God and His commands. They did what they wanted to do. They did what brought them pleasure and what they saw other people doing. This will bring destruction every time.
Think about your life. What commands of God do you keep each day, no matter what happens? I am talking about positive things God commands us to do. Then, think about the commands of God that tell us not to do certain things. How many of those do you do anyway? If we find ourselves not being intentional about keeping God's commands, we are not paying attention either, and it will lead to our destruction.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 24-25 and I Chronicles 1.
