Loyalty to Our Spiritual Family
Many people go to church only for what they can get out of it. I am sorry to say that they are very selfish. If something does not suit what they want, they are quick to leave. They do not serve others. They are there to be served. That is totally unbiblical and against God's will. Moses taught the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh this lesson before the Israelites finally entered the Promised Land. (Numbers 32:18,23) We need to relearn this lesson today and teach it to our fellow believers.
The church is a spiritual family, the body of Christ. We are joined together by our Father in heaven, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit who indwells us. This is especially true for the members of a local congregation of believers, a church. We are to do whatever it takes to make sure that every member reaches their potential and the inheritance God has laid before them. (Ephesians 4:11-16) In fact, just like Israel, we can't achieve our objectives without each other, because growth and victory come through relationships with our brothers and sisters. If we try to go it alone, we stunt our growth and assure failure in completing the tasks God has laid our for us. (Ephesians 2:10)
It is much more serious than that, though. When we shirk our responsibility to support our spiritual family and individual members of it, we sin, and we can be sure our sin will find us out. God will make sure to punish any believer who is not loyal to his or he spiritual family. I believe this very lesson is why so many believers are floundering and wondering why God is not blessing them. To receive His blessings we must repent of our selfishness and be committed to God and to each other, until we are reach our destination together.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 33-35.
