God is Our Authority, not Us
Basically, people want to be God. We want to make all of our own decisions, and do what we think is right, even when it goes against what God has told us. That makes us the authority for our lives. If we adopt that philosophy of life, it is a recipe for disaster. Moses warned the Israelites about this, and we all need to heed his words. (Deuteronomy 12:8)
God created everything, including us. We do not come close to having all of His wisdom and the intelligence to know all things. Our decisions are flawed, because of this. Our ways are not His ways, so He has given us His Word to guide us. (Isaiah 55:8,9) God leads us by His Word. As believers, we have the Holy Spirit to teach us the Word, too. (John 14:26) We must not try to go our own way, because our way leads to destruction. (Proverbs 14:12) If we will just let God be the authority, He will lovingly guide us in the right way every time.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 13-16.
