Grief or Grace
Some people cause the heart of God to be grieved when He observes how they live. Others find grace in the eyes of the Lord. (Genesis 6:6,8) Which category do you fall into?
Genesis 6:6 is one of the saddest verses in the Bible. Just to think that God was sorry that He made man on the earth makes me shudder. How could it be that God's highest creation had come to bring Him so much grief that He was sorry for every creating them? I know that the answer is sin, but I cannot fathom that people would rather have sin than a relationship with a Loving Heavenly Father. Unfortunately, since God gave all people the choice of whether to love and serve Him or not, most people choose to go their own way and live in sin.
However, there are those like Noah, who find grace in God's eyes. They are not perfect people. They sin, but they love and trust the Lord, so that they do not want to sin. They desire to be holy and to obey God fully. When God sees that kind of faith that turns from sin and trusts Him, He gives grace. Grace is the free gift of salvation. We could never earn it, and it is always more than we deserve, but God is gracious to those who love and trust Jesus Christ.
What was your answer to my opening question? There is not a good reason to live a life that grieves the heart of God. Please, know that His grace is available to you, no matter how much you have sinned. Turn to Jesus today, and you will never regret your decision.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 9-11.
