Exhort One Another Daily
We live in a world where many people are very hesitant to talk with others about personal things, because they do not want to offend anyone. Also, we hear people say over and over again that we are not to judge others, so we do not say anything to try to correct others. The Bible says just the opposite. (Hebrews 3:13) We are to exhort one another daily. Let's consider what this means, since we are to do it every day to obey the Lord.
The word exhort means to teach another person something, so that he or she will grow and become more righteous and mature. It may have an element of correction, if that is what they need. It may be encouragement, or it could be pointing out their sin, so that they can overcome it. All of these would be done in love and for the good of the other person.
If we do not receive exhortation, we could drift into sin or fall into sin. Then, our hearts will become hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. We will get farther and farther from God, and we will quit living the Christian life as we should. In fact, we can bring many problems upon ourselves.
Therefore, exhortation is really the kind, loving thing to do for a brother or sister in Christ. It is even good to do for non-believers, since they will get harder and harder the more they sin, and it will be harder for them to trust Christ, as Lord and Savior.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Hebrews 4-6.
