Bless and Do Not Curse
Christians are to be different from everyone else in the world. We are to be like our Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. Living at peace with those around us is a challenge, but it is also an opportunity to show Jesus to them. That is why we are commanded to bless those who persecute us and not to curse them. In fact, if we possibly can, we must live peaceably with all people. (Romans 12:14,18) It is good for us to remind ourselves of this in the day and time in which we live.
When the Apostle Paul was inspired by God to pen these commands, the world wasn't any better than it is today. Christians were put in prison for their faith. The Roman government was corrupt, and people were very immoral. Paul was imprisoned, beaten, and stoned for being a Christian. However, he followed these commands, and so should we. It is impossible to lead people to the Prince of Peace, while being angry and vengeful toward others. Instead, let's be wise, so that we can show people the love of Christ in our attitudes, our words, and our actions.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Romans 14-16 and I Corinthians 1.
