Unprofitable Servants
Jesus was a servant while He was with us on this earth. He wants us to be like Him, so that we are servants, too. Jesus is looking for profitable servants, but most people are only unprofitable servants. (Luke 17:10) We need to know what it takes to go from an unprofitable servant of the Lord to a profitable servant of Jesus.
Jesus told a brief parable about a servant who comes in and does what the master tells him to do. Yes, he does it all, and he does it well. However, he is still an unprofitable servant, because he only did what was his duty. Jesus does not want us to serve Him simply out of duty. He wants us to go beyond our duty to serve Him in love. When we serve Him because we love Him, we will do much more than what is required of us. We will joyfully be the servant of all.
I believe it ought to be our goal to be a profitable servant for the Lord. Let's put behind service that is done out of duty. Let's decide to go on to live a life of service out of love that goes far beyond duty.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Luke 18-21.
