Even the Unclean Spirits Obey Him
The Apostle Paul told us in Ephesians 6:10-18 that we are engaged in a spiritual warfare against Satan and his forces of unclean spirits. The earthly life of Jesus clearly showed us this reality, too. (Mark 1:25,27) The people were all amazed when Jesus ordered the unclean spirit to be quiet and to come out of the man. They wondered what was going on, They thought it was some new doctrine, but it was the struggle with Satan that started in the Garden of Eden. Jesus was simply showing them and us that He has the authority over Satan and his forces, so that we need not fear them.
Yes, we are in a war with the spiritual powers of wickedness in this world. We cannot defeat them by ourselves, but with the authority and power of Jesus on our side, they are no match at all. Satan is a defeated foe. He was rendered powerless by the death and resurrection of Jesus. However, He fights on until the day he will be thrown into the Lake of Fire for eternity. He has power over those who do not know Christ and over Christians who are fighting him in their own flesh, not using God's armor and spiritual weapons. That is what Paul showed in Ephesians 6.
How are you doing in your life? Are you being defeated by the forces of evil, or are you living in victory by the power of Jesus? It is up to you. Jesus wants to save you and give you all of the authority and power to face anything that comes against you. Will you keep trying to do it your way, or will you submit to the authority and power of Jesus yourself?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Mark 2-4.
