Twelve Legions of Angels
At Gethsemane Jesus gave us a glimpse into His great love for us. He prayed to His Father to prepare for the suffering of the cross. He knew the agony He would have to endure for us, but He still told His Father that He would do His will. Then, the soldiers came, and Peter cut off the ear of one of those who came to arrest Jesus. At that point Jesus told Him to put up the sword, and He asked him if he did not know that He could pray to His Father, and He would give Him twelve legions of angels to protect Him? (Matthew 26:53,54) Just think about what Jesus was saying.
No one arrested Jesus, really. He gave Himself up for us. No one could have killed Jesus, if He did not want to give His life for us. It was all Jesus' love for us and His desire to complete the will of the Father that took Him to the cross. He did not do it out of duty. He died for us, so that we did not have to go to Hell because of our sins. He gave Himself, so we could have life. He knew that was the heart of the Father, too, so that is why He had foretold what would happen in the Old Testament. What a Savior! What amazing love?
If Jesus loved us that much, shouldn't we give Him all of our love and devotion? That goes without saying.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 27-28 and Mark 1.
