Unite My Heart to Fear Your Name
David gave us many great insights into spiritual maturity in his psalms. As I read Psalm 86, I found another one that is so important for all of us.(Psalm 86:11) Let's take a few moments to consider this verse. It could change our lives.
Of course, David asked the Lord to teach him His way. It is essential that we learn God's way, or we can't go in the right way. Then, we have to decide to walk in His truth. It is a decision of the will to go His way and to order our lives by His truth. That is essential, too, since God will not force us to live in His way. However, the key to it all is what David said next, "Unite my heart to fear Your Name." Without a united heart that fears the Lord fully, we will not do what we know to do.
We can suffer from a divided heart. If we do, we will have the flesh fighting against the Spirit, so that we will not always do God's will.(Galatians 5:16,17) It is essential for us to have a single-heart and a single-mind set only on doing God's will. Also, this is a reference to having a pure heart, like David asked for in Psalm 51. An impure heart is not a united heart, because there are impurities in our hearts that will not mix with righteousness. Therefore, unless we have pure hearts, we can't have united hearts to serve the Lord. That is why I say that this is a key insight into spiritual maturity. I pray this helps all of us live in God's truth.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 89-91.
