Delight Yourself in the Lord

We do not use the word delight was a verb very often these days, so we need to consider what it means "to delight in something or someone." The word means to take great pleasure in or to be very happy because of something or someone. People delight in a lot of things, but how many truly delight in the Lord? Whoever delights in the Lord will receive the desires of his or her heart.(Psalm 37:4) That sounds pretty important to me.

Our everyday walk with the Lord should be the source of great happiness for us. We should take great pleasure in spending time with the Lord in prayer and in His Word. It should never be a chore or something we have to do out of duty. It should be our greatest pleasure to make Him happy and to be like Him. That is why He is quick to give us the desires of our hearts, when we are joyfully staying close to Him, so we can be like Him.

Of course, this makes a great impact on the desires of our heart. When we delight in the Lord, we do not think about ourselves, but others. We want His will to be done in every instance, and we never want our own way. Our goal is to serve others, not to be served. See what I mean, Jesus will gladly give us the desires of our hearts, when our hearts are the same as His heart.

However, the main thing about this verse that I should not even have to say, but I am afraid it is necessary, is that we experience the fullest joy and fulfillment in life from delighting in the Lord and having a heart like His. There is no better life than that.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 40-42.
