What Does Your Heart Say?

Our motivation for what we do is very important to the Lord. I have met some people who say they believe in God, and they even go to a church, but it is because their family expects them to do that, so they do it. I have met others who decide to try to do right, because of guilt or shame. Then, there are those who logically believe that going to church and being a Christian is a good thing, so they do it, because of their mind. I believe all of these motivations are not pleasing to God. David knew the right motivation.(Psalm 27:8) We all need to check out what he said.

The Bible assures us that God looks on the heart to tell our motivation.(I Samuel 16:7; Proverbs 27:19) He desires for our motivation to sincere love for Him.(Deuteronomy 6:5; Matthew 22:37) Therefore, we need to ask ourselves, "What does our heart say, when the Lord tells us to do something?" God has told us to seek His face. David's "heart" said to Him, "Your face, Lord, I will seek." It was not his mind that told him. He did not do it because of family or guilt. David's heart genuinely wanted to seek God's face. I pray that we all have that motivation for every command of God. If we do, God can richly bless us, because we not only do the right thing, but we do it with the highest motivation, the one that truly pleases the Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 29-31.
