Your Sin Will Find You Out
Many of us have heard this verse all of our lives, but we still may not understand it. What does it mean that our sins will find us out?(Numbers 32:23) Let's think about it a little.
Yes, God will make sure that all of our sins are punished. He will even reveal the sins that we think are secret. That is how God works. However, this verse is not talking about sins of commission, so much as, it is talking about sins of omission. What is the difference? A sin of commission is something we do that is wrong according to God's law or God's character. We break His law. A sin of omission is something we fail to do that we are supposed to obey. In this case the tribes of Israel which were going to settle on the east side of the Jordan river promised to help conquer the land of Canaan before returning to their families and land. That was the right thing for them to do, so if they failed to keep that promise their sin would find them out.
We are often afraid to commit bad sins, but we are not as afraid to fail to do the right things. God will make sure we are punished for those failures, too, so we should be careful to always do His will fully. Prayerlessness will find us out. Failure to forgive others will find us out. Failure to abide in the Lord and His Word will find us out. The sin of being silent about Jesus will find us out. The sin of not helping others who have needs will find us out. Be sure your sins will find you out.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 33-35.
