Much More than Enough

Moses had a wonderful dilemma. When they collected the materials to build the tabernacle, the furnishing, and the clothes for the priests, the people brought much more than enough, so they had to stop them from giving any more.(Exodus 35:21; 36:5) I believe we need to learn from this passage, because this would be a blessing in any church.

The people gave from willing hearts, as they were stirred by the Lord. I believe this shows us that they had soft hearts that were listening to the Lord. It also says that they brought the "Lord's offering" for the work of the tabernacle. They did not think of it as their money. To them it belonged to the Lord. He had given it to them, and now, He was directing them to give it back. These principles are so important for us today, so that we will be good stewards of what the Lord gives us, and we will give His money generously to His work.

The fact that they had more than enough, because of how the people gave shows us the potential of God's people, when we are obedient to Him. How fantastic would it be and how much work could be done in International Missions, if the SBC churches gave more than enough to the Cooperative Program and to the Lottie Moon Offering? How many missionaries could be sent and how many people would come to the Lord? Even in the local church, what would happen if we had more than enough for every area of ministry? I personally believe the results would be astounding. Let's try it and see how God blesses us and His work by listening to the Lord and giving from willing hearts as He stirs us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 37-39.
