Guilty, though Ignorant

Everyone sins, whether we know God's laws or not. When we are ignorant of God's laws, and we break them, we are guilty of sin, whether we know it or not.(Leviticus 3:17) This explains a lot of what people are feeling and the stress we experience on a daily basis. Let me explain.

If people commit murder, they feel the guilt from their sin, even if their culture does not call murder a sin. The same is true for every other sin, too. It is not culture or our consciences that dictate what is a sin, it is God. God punishes all sins.(Romans 1:18-21) Therefore, if someone sins in ignorance, they still receive the consequences of their sins, because God is showing them His law and trying to get them to repent of their wrong doing. This is God's love in action for those who do not know His laws.

This means we have millions of people around the world suffering the effects of sin, because they are guilty, but they may not be aware of the specific commands of God. Sexual sins bring guilt and stress, as do lying and stealing. See the results. A person could be doing "what everyone else is doing," and be very miserable, because God is punishing them for their sins trying to get them to see His ways. This is why we must share the truth of sin and the remedy for sin through Jesus Christ, our Lord. That is the only thing that can free a person from the guilt of sin.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 6-8.
