The Works of Darkness
Isn't it amazing how people try to hide the bad things they do by doing them in the dark? In fact, in all of history the darkness has symbolized evil, and the light has symbolized good. When we become Christians, we go from the darkness to the light in Christ. Then, we can see the evil things of darkness clearly, so we are to quit practicing those things, and live as children of light, doing the right things instead.(Ephesians 5:11,12) However, this does not happen for every believer. Many times, I am sad to say, we continue in those unfruitful works of darkness, and we even talk about them with other people. This is devastating, so let's think about it a little.
Once we trust Christ and become His children, we must decide to live like His children. We must ask the Holy Spirit to give us the power to talk right, act right, and to bear good fruit for the Lord. Then, when we are tempted by Satan to go back to some of those shameful things, we refuse. Instead of talking about them, we expose them for being evil, and we warn others not to do them, instead of pointing them toward those things. If we fail to live as Christ's children, He will punish us.(Hebrews 12:5-11) If we can do those things and not receive God's discipline, we are not His children. Therefore, let's determine to stay as far away from the works of darkness as we can in the power of God's Spirit.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ephesians 6 and Philippians 1-2.
