Being Holy
It seems to me that there are a lot of people who want to go to heaven, but there are not nearly as many who want to live holy lives here on earth. That logic is not good. Heaven is a perfect place with no sin. We should be living now in such a way to prepare us to be there for eternity. That is one reason the Lord commands His children to be holy in all their conduct.(I Peter 1:15,16) However, there are many more benefits to go with that one.
Being holy is always doing the right thing and never doing the wrong thing. That is the prescription for the best life we can possibly have. Sin might be fun for a while, but it destroys us. Why put up with temporary pleasure that brings pain, when we can have eternal favor with the Lord by being holy like Him? His blessings far outweigh any sinful pleasures.
Anyone who knows the Lord can be holy. Every child of God is set apart from the world at salvation. Then, we are to grow to be even more holy by allowing the Spirit, who lives in us, to direct us and empower us to know and do God's will. He is able to do that easily, but He won't force us. Therefore, being holy is our choice. If we let Him, the Spirit will lead us to be holy. That doesn't mean that anyone ever becomes perfect in this life and stops sinning completely. However, it does mean that we sin less and less, so that we do God's will more and more. It is a fantastic way to live!
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Peter 3-5.
