Jesus Can Sympathize With Us
At Christmas, we celebrate when God became a man in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Since the Lord Jesus was the only person who ever was 100% God and 100% man at the same time, He was uniquely able to be our Savior. However, another result of Jesus becoming a man is that He can sympathize with us.(Hebrews 4:15) He was tempted in every way we are tempted, yet He didn't sin. His life here and those temptations showed Him by experience what we go through every day. Now, He can sympathize with us, which means He can "feel with us." I believe that is very significant.
Jesus is God, so He knows all of our weaknesses. He became a man, so He experienced all of our trials and temptations. Therefore, He knows the exact difficulty of each of our problems. He knows the severity of each temptation. He feels with us in both of those areas. He knows just what to tell us to do so we do not sin. He knows just how we can overcome our weaknesses, and He tells us from His experience. At the same time He can communicate to the Father what we are going through from a human perspective and urge Him to have mercy on us when we need it the most.
We should be so thankful that we have a loving Savior, who feels what we feel and knows what it is like to be us. It makes it very easy for us to go to the throne of grace when we have a need, since we know Jesus sympathizes with us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Hebrews 6-8.
