Who Will Annul What God Has Purposed?
God has a purpose behind everything He does or allows. God is not whimsical or random in His actions and plans. No one can annul His purposes.(Isaiah 14:27) In other words, it is worthless to fight against God. He will get His way. This is an important truth for several reasons.
This truth does not mean that God controls everything that happens. In fact, God purposed that human beings would have a free will to choose to love Him and trust Him. Since God purposed that, no one can change that. If we choose to do evil and reject Him, He purposes to punish us for two reasons. He wants to show us we need to turn from our ways because He is love, and He must punish our sin because He is holy. However, if we choose to trust Christ as our Lord and Savior, He has purposed to make us like Jesus.(Romans 8:29) This is a purpose which is based on His foreknowledge of us, but He does not force us to trust Christ. He will lead us to be like Jesus, though, once we trust Christ. If we don't cooperate, He will make our lives miserable, because we are fighting His purpose. He will not allow that. Therefore, we see the purposes of God working in all sorts of ways. We must not try to change them. That is futile. We must align our lives with the purposes of God to have abundant lives.
