Unselfish Prayers
I believe the Lord pays particular attention to unselfish prayers. In fact, He does not answer selfish prayers very often, and if He does, it might work our badly for us. Hezekiah prayed an unselfish prayer for Jerusalem to be spared destruction.(Isaiah 37:20) He was not asking God to save His life, or even to save all of the people in Jerusalem. He was asking God to act, "That all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the Lord, You alone." His prayer had a higher purpose, because he was thinking of how God could get the glory for delivering Jerusalem.
I think we should practice this type of unselfish praying. Think about what you think you need, or what someone for whom you are interceding needs. Then, think about a way to ask God to meet that need in a way that glorifies Him and let's other people see that glory, so they will know He is Lord. This does not insure the prayer will be answered. It does insure that God will see that our hearts are set on Him and on the eternal destinies of other people, instead of only being on our own well being.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 40-43.
