Unanswered Prayers

There are several reasons why we do not get our prayers answered. In Proverbs 28:9 Solomon gives us one that we may not think about. If we turn away our ears from hearing God's law, our prayers are an abomination to God. An abomination is hard to define, but let's just agree that God does like them at all, so He definitely will not answer us. Why is that? Let me explain.

Prayer is about finding God's will, not getting him to do our will. If we are deliberately failing to keep God's law from His Word, the Bible, it shows God that we really are not concerned about knowing His will. After all, His Word contains 90% or more of what He wants us to do. The other 10% is what we pray about. If we are not doing the 90%, why should He try to show us the 10%. We probably would not do that either.

Remember, if all you are wanting is your will to be done when you pray, you are wanting to be God. You are wanting God to be your servant. He doesn't do things for people who holler for Him to jump at their command. He does act when a humble person who is doing all he or she can to keep His law and His Word, makes a sincere request for His will to be done in something not covered in His Word. I hope that makes sense.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 29-31.
