I am Lovesick

I believe we all want to be "in love." It is a marvelous feeling, but it is even more than a feeling. It is a connection with another person that affects us to our core. When we are apart, we hurt for each other. When we are together, there is a peace and joy of their presence. Solomon's wife knew that when she declared she was lovesick for him.(Song of Solomon 5:8) I pray that we are all lovesick.

First of all, I hope you have that special person who you know God made for you, to complete you. Whether you are married to him or her yet or not, you know you were meant to be together as husband and wife. You are thrilled with their love, and you hate being apart. That is God's will for every marriage. Anything less is missing His will. He will help you to be lovesick for your spouse, if you will get right with Him. If you have not found that person, God can meet your needs. It might be that you should be single. He still has a plan for you to be "in love."

Also, and even more importantly, we should be lovesick for the Lord Jesus Christ. We should long for Him and know that we were meant for each other. We should be able to rest in His love for us, but never tire of being in His presence, reading His love letter to us, the Bible, and talking with Him in prayer. We are to have that vital connection that makes us physically sick, if we displease Him, so that we want to apologize and ask forgiveness as soon as possible. We should do all we do out of a sincere lovesickness for Jesus. Anything else is too close to legalism or obligation, which is religion, not relationship. When we have a love relationship with Jesus, we do not need to look to others for our satisfaction or self esteem. He is our Beloved. Yes, our spouse is still our beloved, but Jesus is first by a long shot.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 6-8.
