Worshiping the Lord
David had a wonderful understanding of how to worship the Lord well.(Psalm 9:1,2) We can pick up a lot of principles about true worship as we read the Psalms of David. Let's think of a few of them this morning.
Praise is always fitting for the Lord of all. There are so many things for which He should be praised, and it shows us and others how perfect and powerful He is. Our worship must contain a lot of praise.
We must worship God from our hearts, and it should be from our whole heart. It is not right for us to try to worship God from a divided heart. We ought to make sure that our hearts are pure, and they are fully set on Him when we worship.
We should declare His marvelous works as we worship Him in song, in testimonies, and in the proclamation of His Word. His works show everyone why He is worthy of our trust and our worship. When we tell others what He has done, they are drawn to worship Him, too.
We should be glad and rejoicing in the Lord when we worship. There is a time and place for sober reflection and repentance, but God is so good and worthy that the main part of our worship should be from a glad heart that rejoices.
Finally, singing should be a part of our worship. David wrote these songs under God's inspiration. They are meant to be sung. It seems that God ordained music as a fitting way to worship Him, so we should make a joyful noise to Him.
I pray that the worship of the One True God will be a vital part of our lives each day and especially was we gather with other believers in the Body of Christ.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 10-13.
