Getting Off the Right Path in Life
It is easy to wander away from the Lord and the truth.(Psalm 1:1) I don't believe that people really want to depart from the truth of God in the beginning, but they are drawn away more and more. Psalm 1:1 shows us how it happens. We need to know this verse and think about it often,
We hear counsel from many sources all of the time. We begin to get off the right path when we receive ungodly counsel, and we begin to live by it. It could be something very minor in the whole scheme of things, but it starts us down the wrong path. We keep going that way, because maybe we receive some immediate gratification from our actions, or we don't see any huge results of our change in direction.
Soon, we find ourselves standing or stopping to consider the opposite way from God's way, the way that people who do not know Him live. Satan whispers to us and makes it look good. He appeals to our flesh, so that we live more and more according to ungodly principles. We stop going to church as much, and we stop reading the Bible and praying as much.
Finally, we pull up a chair, and we sit in the seat of the scornful. We begin to mock the things of the Lord and God's ways. We rationalize that we know the truth now, and our old ways were just wrong. We are a full blown skeptic about the Bible and the ways of God.
Psalms 1:2 shows us how to keep this from happening. We are to delight in God's Word and meditate on it day and night. God's Word is truth, so that we should judge everything we hear by the standard of His Word, not by our own intellect. If we do this, we will be blessed, and we will never get off the right path in life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 4-6.
