Set Apart for God
David learned a very important truth about our relationship with God. The Lord has set apart for Himself each believer.(Psalm 4:3) Salvation is much more than just being forgiven for of our sins, as wonderful as that is. We are set apart from this world, and we are set apart to God, so that we can have an intimate relationship with Him, and so that we will be different from those who do not know Him. We are godly, not because we work hard at being perfect, but because of the change that He works in us. Then, we continue to grow and become more like Christ each step of the way.
The word holy means "set apart." All believers are holy because God has set us apart for Himself. The New Testament word saint means "holy one" or "set apart one." Isn't that wonderful? We call it being sanctified by God, and then, the process of growing to be like Jesus as we walk in the Spirit is sanctification. It is true for every believer. There is a life change, and we will become more like Jesus, because God is a loving Father who will do what it takes to lead us in that way.
I like to say that we know that we are saved from our sins, because we see changes in our lives that can only be explained by God's Hand working in us. God makes us a new creation in Christ. We are not perfect, but we are His, and He has set us apart for Him. He answers our prayers in His will and in His way. He conforms us to the image of Christ. David realized this long before Christ, and each of us need to know this today.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 7-9.
