Solving Misunderstandings and Forgetfulness Issues

It is easy for misunderstandings to arise and for people to forget things over time, even very important things. We must do all we can to solve these issues, or we will have problems in our relationships with others. The children of Israel had a misunderstanding as soon as the two and a half tribes went back to dwell on the east side of the Jordan River. They built an altar to prove they were a part of Israel, even though the river separated them.(Joshua 22:26,27) The rest of the tribes heard about it, and they thought it was an altar for sacrifices. This would have been an act of rebellion, since God had told them to only offer their sacrifices on the altar at the Tabernacle. This caused a huge uproar among the leaders and the people until it was solved.

What does it take to solve a misunderstanding? We must not jump to conclusions before we know all  of the facts, and we must wait until we have spoken to the other party before we form our opinion of what has happened and why. Then, we should speak with them as soon as possible before rumors and gossip spread. If we will do these things, we can head off most misunderstandings.

What does it take to solve forgetfulness problems? We must have clear records and memorials that are kept for future generations, and we must make sure we explain what we have done, so that everyone understands. This is why we have minutes for meetings, and we have written histories for our churches and organizations. It is also why we have statues and displays in key places that bear witness to those who have gone before us and their significance.

If we are not diligent about solving these types of problems, people are divided, and they forget their history. Satan uses these things to lead us away from God's will and His truth. I am sure we can all think of many examples of this in our lives and in the history of our country, our church, and our families. Let's not allow misunderstandings and forgetfulness to bring harm.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 24-25, and Judges 1.
