The Source of Eternal Life
The Lord is the source of eternal life. He is eternal, and He is the only one who can grant us eternal life. The Bible shows this truth in several ways. Ezekiel saw a spring of water coming from the Millennial Temple, which grew into a great river. On each side of the river there will be trees that continually bear fruit, and the leaves will be used for medicine.(Ezekiel 47:12) The Lord made it clear to Ezekiel that this was the case, because the waters flow from the sanctuary. I believe this will be a physical reminder for everyone who comes to worship the Lord Jesus at the Temple for the 1,000 years He will reign on earth that God is the source of eternal life.
Also, this is very significant when we remember the beginning and the ending of the Bible. God put the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden. If Adam and Eve would have eaten from that tree, they would have lived forever. That is why they had to be put out of the garden after their sin, so they would not live forever in a sinful state, separated from a relationship with God. Then, in Revelation 22:2 we see that the Tree of Life is in heaven, in the middle and on both sides of the river of the water of life that proceeds from the throne of God and the Lamb. The Tree of life bears 12 kinds of fruit, one each month of the year, and the leaves are for the healing of the nations. Now, there is no sickness in heaven and no death, but this is a tangible reminder for eternity that God is the source of our eternal life.
Spend some time today meditating on this reality. How much do we need water for life? God is the source of the water that brings eternal life.(John 4) How much do we need food for life? God is the source of our food that gives us eternal life.(John 6:32,33) Without His medicine, salvation from our sins, we would die in our sins and be separated from Him forever in eternal death, but in Christ we are healed from our sins forever.(Isaiah 53:5)
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 48 and Daniel 1-2.
