Restore the Joy
Have you lost the joy of your salvation? David did. It was the result of his sin with Bathsheba and his murder of Uriah, her husband. Your sin might be small compared to David's sins, but it is sin that causes a loss of joy in our lives, and we must have that restoration that David cried out for to God. (Psalm 51:10,12) There is only one way to restore the joy. Don't miss it.
Joy comes when we have a clean heart once again. We must identify "our sins." Yes, others may have sinned, too, but we have no control over the sins of other people. If we want to have our joy restored, we must confess our sins to God in repentance and turn back to God for our spirit to be renewed. He is the only One who can cleanse us from our sins, and He is the only One who can restore our spiritual vitality.
However, God is generous to those who cry out to Him sincerely and humbly. He is ready to cleanse and restore, if we are ready to quit blaming others and take the responsibility for our relationship with God. Read all of Psalm 51. There is no blame cast on others. There are no fingers pointing at what people did to David. It is a prayer from a contrite heart, simply acknowledging sins and seeking God's power to restore the joy. Don't hesitate to go to God, but remember, you must be sincere. He sees your heart. There will be no joy for those who try to justify themselves and their sin. There will be no joy for the proud or pious.
David had his joy restored and so can you. Will you?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 52-54.
