Innocent Blood
As we read the Old Testament, we read many times about those who shed innocent blood. God hates the shedding of innocent blood. In the case of King Manasseh it was one of the things that He would not pardon, because he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood.(II Kings 24:3,4) We live in a country today that is filled with innocent blood that has been shed, so we need to take note of God's hatred of this particular sin.
I know that we do not live in a theocracy like Israel and Judah. However, God does not just punish believers for breaking His laws. He punishes anyone and any society that refuses to follow His truth. It seems that some sins are especially grievous to God, because it should be so evident to anyone how horrible they are. When an innocent person is killed, God hates it, because that person was a special creation of God, made in His image. God requires the death penalty for anyone who murders another person, especially an innocent person.
In our society we no longer value life. We kill unborn babies and even new-born babies, as in the case of Kermit Gosnell. We see every day stories of individuals who kill for money or drugs, and they target innocent people. It does seem that our country is filled with innocent blood. What will God do? How will He punish us for this? I believe the Old Testament is clear. Any country that does not value life is brought down by God in His timing. It is up to us, as believers, to inform our society of this horror, and do whatever we can to peacefully bring this sin to an end in America. The only real solution is a Great Awakening or a Church Planting Movement, where millions are changed by the grace of God. It is not a political problem, so the solution is not through the government. It is a heart problem, so only Jesus can change hearts. We are charged to make Him known to all, so they can be changed by His grace. The shedding of innocent blood should give us even more incentive to share Jesus with everyone around us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 2-4.
