Consider it, Confer, and Speak Up!

What are we to do, when we see abominable things happening among those who claim to be believers? Should we just keep silent and only pay attention to our own lives? The writer of Judges gives us a different admonition from Israel's history.(Judges 19:30) When things became worse than they had ever been since coming out of Egypt, he told the people to "consider it, confer, and speak up." I think we are in much the same situation in America today.

Please, keep in mind the events recorded at the end of Judges were not done by pagans, but Israelites. The sin had spread, the darkness had so covered the land, that people did not recognize obvious truth. This led them to commit atrocities and to think they were doing the right thing. They were totally disoriented to God's truth. In am afraid we see this same thing happening over and over today. We must not just do something, but we need to do the right thing. If we take time to consider the state of Christianity in America, confer with other believers who are holding fast to God's truth, then, we can speak up, instead of allowing these things to go on like they are normal. We do not need to be judgmental or mean, but we need to speak the truth in love, like Paul said. If not, we are part of the problem, instead of being part of the solution.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 20-21 and Ruth 1.
