The Sins We Forget

We tend to concentrate on not doing the things we know are wrong. We know these things are sins, so we try to avoid them. We ask for God to give us strength to say no, and to go the other way. All of this is good. It is what we ought to do. However, don't forget, there is another category of sins that are just as bad or worse. When we do not do what we know is right, that is a sin, too.(James 4:17) How often do we pat ourselves on the back for all of the things we haven't done, but we forget all of the good things we neglected to do?

We have spent this whole year reading through God's Word. It is always a marvelous journey of learning and growing. What did you learn? How many new things did God show you in His Word? OK, remember that it is not enough just to know His Word. He holds us accountable to do what we know. Now, we must do what we know is right, or we are sinning. God can't bless us as much, if we do not do the right things that He has shown us in His Word. In fact, He may have to punish us for not doing them.

We ask ourselves, "Why is the USA in the shape it is in today?" I believe it is in large part due to the failure of believers to follow God's Word by living it out in front of others. We have sinned by not doing what we know is right. We have no excuse before the Lord or before other people. Our failure has led them astray. We need to ask for forgiveness from the Lord and from those around us, and we need to make the commitment to live out all we know of God's will every day.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Peter 1-3.
