Seeing God's Face
When we see someone's face, we can tell a lot about that person. Sometimes, it seems that we can look right into a person's heart and soul, as we gaze into their eyes and observe their face. That is why the Bible uses this word picture to speak about having fellowship with another person or with God, Himself. It is a terrible thing when God hides His face from us, because it means our fellowship with Him is broken.(Ezekiel 39:29)
People tell me all the time that they do not hear from God, and that they can't tell what God wants them to do. However, I meet others who can't stop talking about how God is speaking to them through the Bible and prayer. They are very in tune with the Lord. What makes the difference? God reveals Himself to people who have soft hearts and who are seeking Him in humble faith. This comes as the result of listening to His Spirit and being filled with His Spirit. Once His Spirit is in us, He allows us to look right into the face of God and to hear His voice clearly.
God has been hiding His face from Israel, because of their sin and hardness of heart. However, a day is coming when He will no longer hide His face from them, because He will pour out His Spirit on the Jewish people. This means they will submit to Jesus Christ as Lord one day. For years they have been going by the Law in a legalistic way. What a difference it will make when they can see God's face again, and engage in close personal fellowship because of God's Spirit being in them. All of history is leading us to this point because God still cares for the Jewish people. He cares for you, as well, and He wants you to see His face.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 42-45.
