Whatever It Takes

When it comes to advancing the Kingdom of God, we believers need to have an urgency about our lives. We need to be so touched by the heart of God to see all men come to the knowledge of the truth and to be saved, that we do whatever it takes to see that happen. However, we often are overcome by busyness and complacency, so that multitudes die around us without ever hearing the good news of Jesus Christ in a relevant, personal way. Even though it seems like an impossible task to share Christ with the whole world, it is not impossible. In fact, it is very possible if every believer participates in the work.

Nehemiah was touched by God's heart for His people, and he took the initiative to lead those who returned from the exile in Babylon to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. With all of the rubble and the enemies, I am sure many thought that was an impossible task for the small group who returned. Nehemiah knew God would bless, if they would work together in unity. About half-way through the process the enemies threatened to attack them, and the rubble was so high they could not see the enemies coming on them. The people were tempted to be overcome with fear and the feeling that they couldn't make it. However, Nehemiah urged them on by saying they should build with one hand and carry a weapon in the other hand. They must not stop. I am glad to say that they did not stop, but they built the wall and experienced a great revival on top of that. I pray that we do not give up on our task, but that we will do whatever it takes to build the kingdom and see people come to the Lord Jesus.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 5-7.
