Giving An Account to God
Job had full trust in God. He told the Lord and everyone that he would trust God, even if He went ahead and took the last thing he had away from him, his life.(Job 13:15,16) However, Job felt the need to "defend" his own ways before God. He wanted to be able to ask God why these trials were happening to him, because he knew there was no unrighteousness in his life that was causing them. He knew that God was his only salvation, and he was not being a hypocrite.
This is a great statement of faith made by Job to his friends and to the Lord. We would all do well to ask ourselves if we could say the same thing. If God took everything from you like He did Job, would you still trust Him as your salvation? When you are called to give an account of your life to God, which all of us will do one day, will you have the confidence that you have not been a hypocrite? Those are the tests of true faith.
Faith is not following God because of wanting His blessings. Faith is not acting one way on Sunday when we go to church, but the rest of the week our lives go against what we say we believe. Faith is trusting that God is Lord of all, and He deserves to be our Lord, whether He ever blesses us or not. Faith is trusting Him in our hearts and in our actions, all the time.
No one is perfect. However, we can all trust whatever we decide is worthy of our trust. We can trust money, people, or earthly power, but if we trust those things, we are not trusting God. One day we will all give an account of why we lived the way we did. If we were hypocrites, it will be a terrible day. If we were true to the Lord, we will have the attitude of Job. We will want to defend our ways before the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 14-16.
