God's Grace And Mercy
I have met several people in my life who thought they had sinned too much for God to forgive them. Each time I told them that was not true. God is faithful to respond to the worst sinner, if he will humble himself and submit to Jesus as Lord. King Ahab is a great example of God's grace and mercy toward those who sin greatly.
I Kings 21:25 is very clear about Ahab, "But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel, his wife, stirred him up." Ahab was the worst of the worst. God had sent Elijah to pronounce a terrible punishment on him and his family. However, when Ahab heard what Elijah said, he humbled himself before the Lord, tearing his clothes, fasting, and mourning in sackcloth. His display of humility touched the heart of God, and He withdrew His punishment, until the reign of his son, who was very evil, also.(I Kings 21:29)
Isn't that good news? You and everyone else in the world can receive the grace and mercy of God by humbly submitting to Him in repentance. No matter what people may say about God, He has a tender heart toward all who sincerely call upon Him. This truth should cause us all to run to Him often, and to cry out with our whole heart.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 2-5.
