Walking With God
God created man and woman in His image so He could have a relationship with them. God is love. He does not need a relationship with anyone, because He does not need anything. However, He desires to relate to people, so He can show His love in a personal way. He wants to walk with us through our lives and bless us with an abundant life. The question is, "Will we decide to walk with God?"
Walking with God is spending time with Him like Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden. The Bible tells us that they walked with Him in the cool of the day. Just think of it, the Eternal, All-Powerful God coming down to have close fellowship. He talked with them, and I am sure they could discuss anything. God wants to do the same thing for us today. That is why we have an "unhurried time" with Him each day. It is more than reading the Bible and praying. It is meeting with God to prepare for our day.
Walking with God is deciding to keep His commands. Adam and Eve decided to walk away from God by eating from the one tree that was forbidden. They walked with the devil. Then, they were kicked out of the garden. If we are serious about walking with God, we must keep His commands, whether they seem right to us or not. His commands are for our good.
Walking with God leads us to have concern for our family and friends. The Bible is clear that we can't love God and hate people. Cain broke his walk with God when he disobeyed God's rules for the sacrifices, got envious and angry with his brother, Abel, and killed his brother. Then, he was punished by wandering the rest of his life. He decided not to walk with God, so God let Him walk his way the rest of his life.
Finally, walking with God pleases God. When Enoch walked with God for years, God took him straight to heaven, so that he did not have to experience physical death. What a blessing! Enoch spent his life in a close relationship with God, and God took Him to heaven to be even closer to Him. I hope I am the kind of friend that God wants to have around Him that much.
I pray that we will decide to walk with God each day of 2012 and every day for the rest of eternity.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 7-9.
