Faith

Abraham is the Father of the faithful. Genesis 12:1-3 is the covenant God made with him, if he would be faithful to God. It is amazing to consider the faith of Abraham. He did not have the Bible, the Law, the Holy Spirit, or any other believers to walk with him except his wife and nephew, yet he remained faithful to obey the Lord for the rest of his life. He was not perfect, like we see from the trip to Egypt, but he was faithful. He made mistakes as we will see when we read about Hagar, but he was trying to trust God, even then, by having a son. Now, everyone looks back to the faith of Abraham as a model. We can all learn a lot from him.

Now, we all should be able to be even more faithful than Abraham. We do have the whole Bible to guide us. We have the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth and to empower us to do God's will. We have our church family, which is the Body of Christ, to encourage us and hold us accountable. We have every advantage to be faithful. Plus, we have so many faithful believers who have gone before us, as our examples.(Hebrews 11,12) Jesus told us we would be able to do greater things than He did, because He went to the Father, and He supplied the Holy Spirit for us.

Faith is essential. Without faith we can't become a Christian. Without faith we can't please God on a daily basis. Faith is simply trusting what God has revealed to us and living by it. That is what Abraham did, and that is what all of us should do.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 13-15.
