The Test Of Your Beliefs
Moses told the children of Israel that God had come to them to "test" them.(Exodus20:20) God made an unmistakable impression upon the Hebrews when they saw His Presence descend on Mount Sinai with thundering and lightening. They knew they were seeing God's power and receiving His message through Moses. All of this, together with the Passover and the Red Sea crossing on dry ground, was done so that God would see what they would do. That was their test.
We do what we believe. Our belief is not some mystical thing in our hearts. We behave based on what we believe to be true. If we believe God is alive, and He is the most powerful Being in the universe, we will worship Him. If we believe, we can't live righteously ourselves, but He will lead us and give us the power, then, we pray for God's direction and power. If we believe His Word is our food and His special revelation of His will to us, then, we read God's Word, and we do what He says. If we don't worship God, pray to God, and read His Word, we do not really believe in God. We do not trust Him. We are fooling ourselves that we have Jesus in our hearts. Jesus comes to live where He is Lord, and when He moves in, He makes a difference.
God revealed Himself to Israel, and He stepped back to see, if they would pass the test of faith and fear. He reveals Himself to us, and He watches to see if we trust Jesus and fear the Lord. He can tell by what we "do," not just by what we "say." If we fear God, we will be deterred from sin. If we love the Lord, we will keep His commandments. If we trust Him, we will obey His Word out of love. The test is what we do. Our faith is seen by what we do. Are we trusting Him or ourselves? Believe me, trusting Jesus is the only way to live in this world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 23-25.
