Gift Giving
At Christmas we think about gift giving. It is part of celebrating the birth of Jesus. We give our friends and family gifts in honor of the greatest gift of all, which is Jesus. Jesus came to the world, so that He could give Himself for our sins. Then, salvation is offered to all people in the world, if they will confess Jesus as Lord, after turning away from their own sins and doing things their own way. Titus 2:11 tells us that the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Grace means a free gift. Jesus gave Himself freely, and He offers salvation by grace, as a free gift.
So what are we to do because we have received Christ’s free gift? We are the gift givers now. It is up to us to live as examples of what His grace can do for people. Therefore, we are to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, so we can live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age. We are proof that Jesus gives us the abundant life.
Finally, we are the ones to give the message of grace to others, so they can receive the free gift. It is our way of giving the greatest gift. If we do not give the gift away, many will never receive it. This is far more important than giving any Christmas gift. We are privileged to have this part in the plan of God. We should be joyful givers of the story of God’s grace.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Titus 3, Philemon, and Hebrews 1.
