Doing The Right Thing
As a pastor, I get asked for a lot of counsel. I am not a counselor, but I can give Biblical counsel. Most of the time people want to know, "What is the right thing to do?" I tell them the answer, and sometimes, they like it; sometimes, they don't.
If they are really searching for the right thing to do, they will find it in God's Word. He made it clear enough and complete enough, so that almost every time His Word contains the right thing to do. However, many times people do not really want to know the right thing. They only want someone to affirm what they want to do. In that case it doesn't matter how clear the Bible is, they will not accept the answer.
I have found that most people make decisions based on emotions and not by the Biblical principles. It is true that people do just about what they want to do. The problem is that emotions can fool you, and they can lead you astray from God's truth. The train of life should be led by the engine of facts, not the caboose of feelings. If we get those two switched around, we are in deep trouble. That is the position of a lot of people these days, because their goal is pleasure, not being responsible. They want their own way, not God's way. It is a very dangerous way to live.
Tomorrow, I intend to read James 1-4.
