Where Does Your Water Come From?

Everyone has to have water to live. Without it we dry up and die in just a short time. The same is true in the spiritual realm. God is the Fountain of Living Waters.(Jeremiah 2:13) We can only have eternal life by drinking from His fountain, and we can only have an abundant life by drinking those living waters daily. If you are thirsty today, turn to Him as your source.

The problem is that so many people, even God's people, cease to drink from the Lord's fountain of living water. They dig for themselves cisterns, pits in the ground, to collect rain water that is stagnant and unrefreshing. They try to quench their thirst from this water. Maybe at first it tastes "OK." However, it never satisfies and leads to good spiritual health.

Have you traded church attendance for true worship of the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you trying to get your water from just listening to lessons and messages, instead hearing from God yourself in prayer and Bible study? Are you doing rituals, but not obeying the very voice of God and obeying His commands? All of these things are cisterns. They seem to be good, but they are stale, stagnant water.

The Lord desires to give us eternal life through His Son. That life is to be empowered by Him as we submit to Him on a daily basis. We must drink deeply and often from the Fountain of Living Waters. He satisfies our needs and leads us to growth that brings joy, peace, and love that blesses us and others. We have no need for religion, when we have a relationship with the Lord.

Today, I read Jeremiah 2-4.
