Building on the Only Foundation
Jesus Christ is the Only Foundation for life.(I Corinthians 3:11) He is Life. He is the Giver of Life. Until we know Him we are just existing. I know most of us know this, whether we have trusted Christ as Lord and Savior or not. My question is this: "What are you building on the Foundation?"
We can choose to build upon this foundation with worthless materials like wood, hay, or stubble. These are all of life's activities that will not last for eternity. When we pursue only pleasure, being comfortable or powerful, or being rich or well known, we are building perishable things on the Foundation. In the Day of Judgment they will be burned up, forgotten, lost forever. We will see the disappointment on the face of Jesus because we missed His will and His blessings.
On the other hand we can do His will and build things that are eternal, like our relationship with the Lord, our relationships with people, and serving and witnessing in His name. Then, when the fire of the Judgment Day comes what we have built by His grace will endure forever. We will hear Him say, "Well done." That is why Jesus doesn't just take us to heaven when He saves us. We are here to be conformed to His image and to enjoy Him while we serve Him, so others can come to know Him as we have. I pray that we all are building with gold, silver, and precious stones.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 10-12.
