Disoriented to the Truth

I am indebted to Henry Blackaby for explaining to me about being disoriented to the truth. Often, Jesus' disciples would not understand what Jesus was saying or what to do in a particular situation. They were disoriented. They did not see things according to the truth. They saw things their own way. Jesus is the Truth, so only when we see things as Jesus did are we oriented correctly toward the truth. This is what I pray each day. I want to be oriented to the truth in everything that happens so I can see it as Jesus does and respond as He would respond.

It is a tragedy when believers are disoriented to the truth, because it leads us to be a bad witness to those around us. When we are tempted to lash out in anger, we are disoriented, because the Bible tell us to put away all anger and wrath. When fail to love our enemies, we are disoriented to the truth. When we try to meet our own needs in our own power, we are disoriented. When non-Christians see disoriented believers, they get the wrong idea about Jesus and the Gospel.

The burning of Qurans is an example of being disoriented. Jesus loves Muslims. He loves people who hate Him, and He wants to win them by love, not by disrespecting them or hurting them. What will get us to be respected by Muslims? I think it will be when they see us loving them and treating them well, even when they desire to kill Christians. Of course, we have the right to defend ourselves and our country from people who would harm us, but we can still love the ones who would harm us. That is Jesus' way, because He is not only the Truth, but He is love. If folks want to show that the Quran is wrong and the Bible is right, they should do it by living out the Bible by the power of God, not by putting down the Quran.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 24-26.
