Returning and Rest; Quietness and Confidence
I hope you saw my verse for today, Isaiah 30:15, "For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, "In returning and rest you will be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength, but you would not." This was the Lord's encouragement to His people in a time of great trouble, and we need to hear it today, as well.
Our deliverance or salvation from our enemies and problems will come when we return to the Lord and rest in Him. Our strength will come when we spend time in quietness before the Lord and have our confidence in Him, instead of ourselves. Can you see how all of these are contrary to human nature? By nature we want to fight harder and get louder, as we attack our enemies in our own strength. This is not God's way.
The reason so many people live defeated lives in America today is that there is precious little repentance and almost no resting in the Lord. We live in so much noise that we find it difficult to sit in quietness before Him for even a few minutes a day. Therefore, we have no confidence in Him, because our relationship is shallow. It would do us all good to adjust our lives to include these vital elements and enjoy the victory God will give us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 32-34.
