The Holy Huddle

Our Men's Bible study tackled the end of Luke 4 this morning. We had 11 men, who were there to discuss God's Word and apply it in their lives. These men are a great blessing to me.

One of the main points we discussed this morning was the need for Jesus to leave Capernaum and preach in the surrounding towns, too. He announced this to the people after He had healed Simon's mother-in-law and many other people who were brought to Him the previous evening. The people of the town wanted Jesus to stay. They had listened to His teachings, which were different because of His authority. They saw His miracles. They knew He had great power to bless them. They wanted to keep Jesus for themselves. Jesus had another plan from the Father. It was His purpose to spread the gospel of the kingdom to as many people as possible during His three and a half year ministry. Then, He would send out His disciples as apostles to deliver His message after He ascended back to heaven. That was God's plan, and it has not changed to this day.

The problem is that we are still like the people of Capernaum. We are comfortable with Jesus, and we enjoy His blessings. We want to keep Him for ourselves, even if the rest of the world is missing out on His life saving message. We do not want to follow in the steps of the apostles to spread the Good News. We are missing the purpose of God, if all we want to do is enjoy our holy huddle on Sundays was we worship Jesus. He did not come just to establish churches for Christians to have fellowship and worship Jesus. He came to die for us and to send us out with the message that Jesus saved us, and He can save anyone who will trust Him as Lord and Savior. We must not be selfish with Jesus. We must share Him with everyone around us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 81-83 and Romans 11:19-36.
