Prayer for Our Country
In just a few hours it will be May 1, the National Day of Prayer. This is a day set aside by Christians to pray for the USA. All across our land there will be prayer meetings and churches will be holding extended times of prayer. I am sure some people see it as some kind of stunt, but I believe it is more important this year than it has been in a long time.
God blesses those people and countries who trust Him and follow His Word. He cannot bless the ones who reject Him and His commands. I think we can all see that America is increasingly more secular. People have less belief in God and especially in Jesus Christ. Oprah's brand of religion is on the increase, while the belief in the personal God of the Bible is waning. This has an effect on everything in our country, because as we believe we behave. If there is no belief in sin and righteousness, then, the behavior suffers. If there is no fear of God, we are in danger of judgment.
Christians can blame the government and unbelievers for this falling away from the faith, but I am afraid a lot of the fault lies with Christians and churches. We have not prayed, and we have not stood up for the truth. We are lukewarm in our relationship with Jesus, so we are a big part of the problem. I pray that we will bind together tomorrow to repent of our sins and to consecrate ourselves to the Lord. Then, we can lift up our prayers to God, and He will hear us and heal our land. It is up to us. What will we do?
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Kings 10-11 and Luke 21:20-38.
