Jealousy Causes Serious Consequences - I Samuel 19-21 and Luke 11:29-54

Saul was very jealous of David's popularity and his abilities. This led Saul to try to kill David to keep him from becoming king. On the other hand Jonathan was not jealous of David. He wanted David to be the king, even though that would keep him from becoming the king after his father. Jonathan even went so far as to make a covenant of friendship with David. This made Saul very angry. This jealousy caused Saul to sin in many ways and the worst sin was his desire to kill David. What has jealousy caused you to do that was against God's will? We must guard against jealousy every day.

In Luke 11 we read that the Jewish leaders were jealous of Jesus. Their jealousy caused them to plot to kill Jesus. They should have known better, but they set out to kill the Son of God. Jesus confronted them about their sins. They wanted to keep their power over the people, but Jesus wanted everyone to see their hypocrisy. Their jealousy caused them to miss seeing that Jesus was the Messiah. That was a terrible blindness. Has jealousy made you blind to some things? If it has, you know how destructive it can be, and how much we need to put it out of our lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 22-24 and Luke 12:1-31.
