God Can Save by Many or by Few - I Samuel 13-14 and Luke 10:1-24

We must have a basic understanding of God's nature in order for us to trust Him as we should. We must understand that God is not limited. He can save by many or by a few. If we know this, we will not have a preconceived notion about what it takes to see God work. We will be willing to trust Him even against huge odds. In other words, this understanding leads us to greater faith. Saul erred greatly because he thought that he had to have a large army to defeat the enemy. This belief led him to sin by offering the sacrifices himself. He thought this would keep more soldiers from leaving and give them a better chance to win the battle. This was wrong. The best way to victory was to trust God and know that He could do anything needed to defeat the Philistines. That is what Jonathan knew. He and his armor bearer won a victory and spurred the people to win, too. They did this by themselves because they knew that God could use two people to defeat the Philistines, if He wanted to do so. Have you learned this truth for your life?

Jesus was operating on the same understanding. He sent out 70 disciples to spread the Word. He sent them out with few supplies. He knew that God could use those few people to do His will, if they would trust Him, not their own power. The 70 saw Satan and his demons defeated by the mighty power of God. What group do you want to be in? Do you want to trust in human numbers and power, or do you want to trust in God's power? If we want to be the ones who trust God, we must rid ourselves of the notion that we must have a certain number of people or human resources to be used by God. We must know that God can save by many or by few, and we must just trust what He tells us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 15-16 and Luke 10:25-42.
