August 17, 2006 - Psalms 97-99 and Romans 16

The Lord reigns! That is the theme of the psalms we are reading today. Each psalm exalts the Lord for being the Sovereign King of the whole world. He is the Lord, and He does reign, but He gives each of us a choice. Is He Lord of your life today? Are you allowing Him to reign over every area of your life? If you are, there will be real differences between you and those who do not allow Him to reign.

Psalm 97 tells us that those who love the Lord must hate evil. (v.10) It is not enough to love what is right, we must have a disdain for sin. Then, He will give us light for our way and gladness for our hearts. (v.11)

Psalm 98 tells us that He has revealed His righteousness to the whole world over which He reigns. People have no excuse for not believing in the Lord. One day He will judge the world. (v.9) How will you do when you stand before the Lord and answer for your life? Will He see that you allowed Him to reign or not?

Psalm 99 points out some of those who have gone before us. They served the Sovereign King. Moses, Aaron, and Samuel were real people. (v.6) They called upon Him, and He answered. They kept His testimonies and ordinances. They were not perfect, but they were forgiven, because they trusted Him as their king. Is He your king?

Romans 16 has a long list of people who were servants of the Lord. Notice all of the names of the men and women Paul mentions. This reminds us that God calls us all to be His servants in some way. We are to be unified in telling the world that Jesus is Lord. In order to do that He must be Lord in our lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read psalms 100-102 and I Corinthians 1.
