February 21, 2006 - Numbers 1-2 and Mark 3:1-19

These two passages speak of the multitudes. That is one thing that a mission trip will show us. There are multitudes of people who need Jesus. Sometimes, we forget the rest of the world, because we get lost in the familiar. However, we need to step back and see the ocean of humanity around us. It is here in Henry county. It is in Santo Domingo, Japan, Africa. We need to have good view of the multitudes all the time.

The first multitude is the people of God. Look at all of the Hebrews in Numbers 1 and 2. I believe there were over 2 million of them in all. Look at all of the fighting men. Think of the potential. If they would follow God, they could defeat any enemy. That is true of the church today. There are enough of us to take the Gospel to the world, if we are all obedient soldiers. However, the Hebrews failed to trust God, and so do we. Therefore, the world is dying without Jesus.

Mark 3 shows the multitudes following Jesus, but it also shows the 12 apostles He chose. Why did He choose them? He wanted them to be with Him. Then, He would send them out to preach. That is what He wants for all believers now. If we would all spend time with Jesus, we could go out and reach the multitudes for Christ. We need to make that commitment. We need to see the fields of harvest before us and go to work in the power of the Lord.
